What are the signs that your child might be addicted to their phone?

Some of the signs include:

  1. You are checking or using your phone throughout the day.

  2. You have a hard time being away from your phone.

  3. Sleeping problems.

  4. Your grades are dropping.

What can parents do to support their children in limiting mobile phone usage?

Parents can help out their children by rationing the use of mobile phones. This can be done by assigning rules for when mobile phones are used and unallowed. Examples of this would be:

  1. No mobile phones during feeding time or family time.

  2. Make mobile phone ownership contingent on school grades improving.

  3. Encourage your child to engage in other activities away from mobile.

What can Teenagers do to overcome phone addiction?

There's so much a parent can do to #support their children. Mind and emotional support are shared responsibilities, and your child's input matters the most. Teenagers must take part of the weight by learning some self-discipline. The ability to say ’NO’ to yourself in overcoming your weaknesses, such as limiting the time you spend on your mobile phone.




What is loneliness?


Loneliness is an emotion that is often misunderstood. You can be with others and still feel lonely. You can also be alone and feel fulfilled. Usually, for young people, thinking about a loved one they miss so much and would rather be with can trigger feelings of sadness and loneliness. The emotion of loneliness happens when you disconnect with other people, in association with the strong belief that;

  1. No one understands you or what you might be experiencing.

  2. No one can help you.

  3. No one likes you and wants to be with you.

Is loneliness a sign that something is wrong with me?


Everyone feels lonely at times. Loneliness is not a problem unless you persistently feel lonely, and it starts to affect your daily abilities. A daily planned alone time for reflecting, relaxing, and rejuvenating can certainly improve the well-being of young people. However, when teenagers feel lonely most of the time, it may lead to mental well-being and physical health problems.


What should a teenager do if persistently feeling lonely?

  1. It is helpful to share how you feel with trusted family and friends.

  2. Practice daily self-care, which includes a planned rest time alone.

  3. Considered seeing a mental health professional. They can help you identify the root cause of your loneliness.



According, to one study, 50% of teenagers reported that they felt addicted to their phones. Another report mentioned that two-thirds (69%) of young people showing signs of phone addiction reported poor sleep quality. Sleep deprivation is considered a serious well-being issue once using a mobile phone starts to affect a child's sleep and learning ability negatively.


Is phone addiction like drug addiction?

Studies show that mobile phone users experience increased dopamine when receiving “likes” or positive messages. #Dopamine is a “feel good” chemical released by the brain. So, they repeatedly look at their phone, hoping to stimulate their emotional mind. This process can become a habit that can turn into an addiction. This same feeling could occur when certain drugs are taken.


One of the five ways of the mind and emotional nurturing is to actively exercise, eat, rest and sleep. Period!


All teenagers need adequate sleep to nurture their minds and emotional wellbeing.
